Reprisal leads big team of chances at Gunnedah

Troy O’Neile will have four runners at Gunnedah today, and it will be in-form sprinter Reprisal leading the team’s chances as he takes on the 1000m Benchmark 58 Handicap.

The 5YO Trapeze Artist gelding, formerly trained by Danny O’Brien in Victoria, was a winner at Moonee Valley and Mornington in 2023/24.

O’Neile has had the talented sprinter for one preparation, and following a good break, it appears he has worked out the secret to Reprisal’s success.

The Tamworth galloper resumed on his home track on April 10 and found the line strongly to finish second in the 1000m Benchmark 58 Handicap.

The winner of that race, Nirmata, franked that form, winning the $50,000 John Clift Memorial Sprint on Tamworth Cup Day.

At Gunnedah, Reprisal runs into a smaller eight-horse field, draws well with gate one, and attracts the services of Jenny Duggan, and bookmakers have kept him safe at $4 second-favourite, which is in from an opening quote of $7.

On a busy day for the stable, O’Neile has four chances, kicking off with last-start Armidale placegetter Albert’s Pick (Jenny Duggan, 57kg) resuming from gate 9 in the 1000m Maiden Plate.

Recent Tamworth Super Maiden winner, Hinto (Angel Brennan, 58kg), has drawn well with gate two in the 1400m Benchmark 58 Handicap.

Rounding out the stable’s chances will be Think Pi (Serg Lisnyy, 55kg), which is second up in the 1250m Class One Handicap.
